Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Police say they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Police then found numerous other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police report early analysis show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are presently not aware of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack made him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
